Project managers are responsible for the overall result of the project. They ensure that the developed solution optimally meets the various requirements of the business areas, users and technology. This only works if the PMs are highly competent and experienced, and if they can make the best use of all the specialists’ contributions. On smaller projects, our project managers often also assume responsibility for requirement management and functional design.
Of course, our project managers are responsible for the big four of Scope, Quality, Time, and Cost, for efficient issue, risk and change management, and for effective communication with stakeholders inside and outside the project. Project managers and business analysts also actively support governance activities for the project board, quality management, IT security, risk management, and data protection, and they promote continuous improvement processes in the project.
We see no contradiction between agile process models and traditional project management techniques. In our experience, the best of both worlds is what gets the best out of a project.
